Area Legislative Officials receive “Friend of Agriculture” award

McHenry County Farm Bureau is honored to present the "Friend of Agriculture" award to our Illinois General Assembly Members and our Congressional Representatives. Senator Althoff, Representative Franks, Representative Tryon, and Representative Wheeler earned the award for their outstanding voting records and accessibility ratings.

McHenry County Farm Bureau also extends congratulations to Congressman Hultgren and Congressman Roskam for receiving the "Friend of Agriculture" award on the national level.

McHenry County Farm Bureau appreciates the opportunity to work with each of these legislative officials. "Our legislative officials have a great working relationship with our organization and serve our farmers and producers well," Dan Volkers, McHenry County Farm Bureau manager stated. The officials received a Steiger 450 Rowtrac collectable tractor that is placed upon a wood base plate that reads "Friend of Agriculture".

In order to qualify for the "Friend of Agriculture" award the candidate had to achieve at least a 60% voting record and receive a favorable accessibility rating from the ACTIVATOR Trustee Committee. Each year, the Illinois Farm Bureau compiles voting records of the Illinois General Assembly members on important agricultural issues. These voting records are compiled each year to determine "Friends of Agriculture" awards and for use in a general election voter's handbook.

The roll calls of several key agricultural issues are selected. Roll calls used are left to the discretion of the Illinois Farm Bureau Board of Directors. The Illinois Farm Bureau Board of Directors assigns variable weights to roll call votes used, ranging from five to twenty-five points and reflecting the overall importance of the issue to Illinois agriculture.
