The Discovery Center Museum in Rockford Illinois has opened a new exhibit featuring agriculture. The museum is designed for children but is fun for the whole family. The amazing Discovery Center Museum is full of over 250 exciting hands-on exhibits spread over a two-floor area. Out in the museum's backyard, visitors can explore Rock River Discovery Park, a giant, multi-level science park with a hands-on twist. The museum also hosts traveling exhibits, special events and programs throughout the year. Child Magazine ranked it as #4 Children's Museum in the USA. They are adding several new additions including new science classrooms, new exhibit galleries and enlarge early childhood exhibit space. The center piece of this major building expansion will be a new gallery devoted to the topic of Agriculture. The exhibit is themed: "Agriculture Touches All Our Lives Every Day." They have been developing this exhibit for the last three and a half years.
In the exhibit children are able to milk a realistic cow and learn how different dairy products are made. They are also able to see where beef and pork comes from, what plants need to grow and what products are made from corn and soybeans. Case IH donated a tractor so children can sit in a real tractor. They also have a realistic looking combine and grain facilities set up where children can play with the grain and learn how it is maneuvered.
They are still looking for donations and have started the "Buy A Bale" program. When you "Buy A Bale" your name and city will be displayed on a hay bale shaped plaque and placed on a permanent donor recognition board that will be located near the entrance to the Ag-Zibit. Bales are available in three colors at three different donor levels.
