ENERGIZED TO LEARN

Twenty three FFA students, two FFA Advisors, and two Farm Bureau staff members made the McHenry County FFA Acquaintance Day a success. On March 16, Marengo and Harvard FFA students loaded a charter bus for Northwestern Illinois to get a first hand look at some of the newest technologies used in the agricultural field.

The first stop was Hunter Haven Farms, Inc., an 800 dairy cow farm located in Pearl City, Illinois, that owns and operates a 260 kW anaerobic digester (AD) gas-fired combined heat and power (CHP) system. The digester / CHP system was designed and installed in two phases beginning in late 2004 and ending in spring 2008.

The second stop was Adkins Energy located in Lena, Illinois, a producer owned corn-to-ethanol production facility which processes approximately 16 million bushels of corn annually into 45 million gallons of fuel-grade ethanol.

The program was made possible through McHenry County Farm Bureau's Foundation and its Ag in the Classroom program.
