Glenda Mireles 2023 Summer Intern

Hi! My name is Glenda Mireles and I have the great honor of being the 2023 summer intern for the McHenry county farm bureau. I chose to pursue this internship in hopes of learning more about our local agriculture and farmers. I graduated from Marengo Community High School and am currently enrolled in the Agriculture Entrepreneurial program at Mchenry County College.

I grew up around agriculture my whole life but never really became interested until I joined FFA in my freshman year of high school. Being highly involved in FFA has opened my eyes to many perspectives and opportunities in the agriculture industry. I was a member of the Marengo FFA for all four years of my high school career. From being highly involved in all the section competitions to attending multiple section and statewide events. During my involvement in this organization, I held multiple leadership roles such as being Vice President my junior year, President my senior year as well as the section 6 Treasurer. Throughout this career, I was lucky enough to build up my networking and leadership skills.  To wrap up my senior year, I attained my state degree from the Illinois FFA  Association and plan on going for my American degree the following
year.

This past year I was able to work on campus at the MCC student farm. From harvesting fruits and vegetables to planting and harvesting, I have learned many valuable hands-on tips and tricks that I will be able to apply on my own fruit and vegetable production farm someday. After graduating from MCC, I plan on pursuing a job in farm management. Later on down the road, I hope to invest in some property to get a fruit and vegetable farm started as well as working with agricultural organizations to advocate for this industry. I hope to someday assist with the funding to implement new agriculture-based classes for the upcoming generations.
