Jordan Peterson, 2016 MCFB Summer Intern Wrap Up:

Sadly, the time has come to say goodbye to another summer. As fall comes rolling around the corner, it is safe to say I will miss all the beautiful times of summer. Most importantly I will miss my wonderful opportunity of being the McHenry County Farm Bureau Summer Intern. The experience is one that I will cherish forever, as it gave me lasting memories and new knowledge.

Throughout my internship I got the opportunity to partake in many of the Farm Bureau’s events. Although it is extremely hard to pick a favorite, one of my personal highlights was attending the Women’s Committee meetings. I loved seeing farm women of the community come together and make positive changes around the county. The women in the Women’s Committee assist in many of the Farm Bureau’s events: from making lunch for the teachers during Summer Ag Institute, going to the Brookfield Zoo to manage the Farm Bureaus information booth, handing out free cheese, ice cream and milk at the Dairy Promotion, to working in the food booth at the McHenry County Fair. I really enjoyed seeing members of the Women’s committee throughout the summer and being able to form relationships with them. And the baked goods and coffee at their meetings did not hurt either!

Being the intern for the McHenry County Farm Bureau this summer has given me an array of new knowledge that I know will greatly benefit me now and in the future. I learned so much about different farm operations, agricultural companies, and even airport security border control. I was also able to develop many skills such as writing an article from an interview, to updating Facebook pages on the internet and many things in between.

I am beyond grateful for all the amazing experiences the Farm Bureau created for me. But unfortunately my wonderful time of being a summer intern has come to an end. Moving on from this internship, I plan to take all the skills I developed to have a successful first year in college and beyond. I have started my Freshman year at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, where I am studying Food and Agriculture Business. I just completed my first month in college and could not be happier. I have rushed into the Delta Gamma sorority, joined the Agriculture Business Club, Collegiate FFA, and have fully caught the Rocky Top fever.

I will miss all of the fun times and events of the internship, but I plan on continuing to stay in touch will all the wonderful people I met. I definitely plan on stopping by to see Dan and Sue at the Farm Bureau office, and volunteering at the McHenry County food booth at the fair - to make more extremely full ice cream cones! Thank you so much for an unforgettable summer.
