McHenry County Farm Bureau Women's Committee presented funds exceeding $400 and food donations exceeding 100 pounds to the Marengo Food Pantry. The donation was in recognition of Food Check-Out Week. The Women's Committee has visited a different food pantry each year for the last five years. In past years they have visited; McHenry, Harvard, Huntley and Woodstock food pantries.
Food Check-Out Week is a nationally recognized week in which the average American family has made enough money to purchase their entire food bill for the year. This year Food Check-Out Week is being observed from Sunday, February 15th through Saturday, February 21st, 2009. Typically, consumers spend just 10 percent of their disposable annual income on food. Food is a real bargain when you consider the average American will not enjoy Tax Freedom day until mid-April.
