Our Women's Committee and staff kicked off the school year by delivering 2,400 teacher newsletters and Ag in the Classroom calendars. In the newsletters, we offered several events, in-services and presentations.
This fall, we are visiting classrooms with our Pumpkin Patch Pie program. The presentation includes the pumpkin life cycle as well as a pumpkin treat at the end of the program. The program has a huge response each year; roughly 2,000 students will receive the presentation. Other popular AITC programs include corn, soybeans, cotton, renewable energy, dairy, endangered species, skull lab, stream monitoring/water testing and Christmas trees.
In the summer, we will hold a five day Summer Ag Institute for teachers. Summer Ag. Institute will feature area farms and a visit to Chicago. Two of the days will focus on incorporating agriculture into the classroom through hands on learning experiences. Teachers receive three master degree credit hours upon completion of the institute.
