Celebrate McHenry County Fair

The McHenry County Fair will be celebrating 77 years in Woodstock, Illinois. The fair features 4-H shows, livestock and non-livestock exhibits, educational displays, diverse vendors from local businesses and organizations, a carnival, as well as ground and grandstand entertainment.

Mchenry County Fair 50 years ago

Reigning over the McHenry County Fair this year: Two attractive, talented young women, Barbara Tymec, Miss McHenry County from Woodstock, and Susan Borhart, Huntley, 4-H Queen. Chosen 4-H King was Ben Jacobs, Jr. 

McHENRY COUNTY FARM BUREU is the successful bidder for this steer, owned by Diane Kuhlman, Hebron. Larry Harris and John Martin bought this steer at the livestock auction at the county fair. 

Jack Hardt, (left) receives Reserve Supreme Grand Champion 4-H and Reserve 4-H Grand Champion honors with his Holstein at the McHenry County Fair. Kathy, his sister (right), receives the awards of Supreme Grand Champion 4-H, Junior and Open Class Holstein in competition. Both are from Woodstock and are members of the Harvard Prairie Toppers. 

The Marlowe family of Huntley purchased the 4-H Reserve Grand Champion Over-all crossbred steer at the McHenry County Fair. The steer was raised and exhibited by JoAnn Kearns, Huntley, and sold for $1.05 a pound. Mchenry County Fair 25 years ago

Alex Ainger, Harvard, sold his 105-pound reserve champion market lamb to Heritage House Restaurant, Harvard. From left: Nicole Schmid, Heritage House; Kate Ireton, holding trophy; Alex Ainger, and Julie Coe.

Don Olbrich, Harvard, sold his day's production of milk from the reserve champion dairy cow to Dean Foods, Chemung for $575. Dick Crone had the winning bid. 

Rob Richardson and John Henning grill pork patties for the popular Farn Bureau Food Booth.

Travis Holian, Richmond, sold his grand champion steer to Bill Becknell, Builders Unlimited for $4.25 a pound at the 4-H auction. From left: Julie Coe, Miss McHenry County; Bill Becknell and Travis Holian.

 

Cattlemen Basil Periman (left) and Vern Schiller staff the Northeast Illinois Cattleman's booth at the fair. Steak and hamburger sandwiches were the stars of their menu!

Walter Shanks, Garden Prairie, sold his day's production of milk from the champion dairy cow to Dean Foods, Chemung, for $1,450. Dick Crone had the winning bid.
