A Day at Petersen Farm

Everyone is invited to McHenry's Petersen Farm celebration on Sunday, June 25, at 4112 McCullom Lake Road, one mile West of Route 31. Visitors will enjoy American Roots music by Cheryl Niemo and the Down Home Boys. Along with Pete Johnson on guitar and Marty Brunkalla on mandolin and fiddle, Cheryl brings a blend of Bluegrass, Folk, Country Blues and Old Time Country, demonstrating American down home music across the decades. 

Tractor Trek rolls out in July

McHenry County Farm Bureau and McHenry County Antique Farm Equipment Association are co-sponsoring their 15th annual “Tractor Trek” on Saturday, July 15.  The event will begin in the Ringwood area and head up to Twin Lakes, Wisconsin. 

Proceeds raised from this event are donated to the Agriculture in the Classroom program, to promote agricultural awareness in McHenry County.  The Ag in the Classroom program features: Ag Expo, Summer Ag Institutes, In-Class Presentations, Agricultural materials for classrooms, Teacher in Services and Scholarships. 

Peaches Offered

McHenry County Farm Bureau is taking orders for Illinois peaches.

2/5 bu. box (roughly 25 pounds), price to be determined.

Peaches are expected to arrive towards the end of August.

Available are Cresthaven – a large freestone peach with great flavor and a peach that holds its firmness- supplied by Rendleman Orchards, Alto Pass, Illinois in Union County.

Scholarship available

McHenry County Farm Bureau Agricultural Education Foundation is offering a $1,000 scholarship. The scholarship is available for high school seniors pursuing continuing education in agriculture or agriculture-related fields. The applicant or the applicant's family must be a member of the McHenry County Farm Bureau to qualify. Additional scholarships may be awarded if funds are available at the time of judging.

All scholarship applications need to be received by April 1, 2017.
