AITC Pumpkin Program is a big hit in McHenry County Schools

McHenry County Farm Bureau has taken on the task of teaching hundreds of 1st grade students about pumpkins. Larry Reinhard, Ag In The Classroom (AITC) Coordinator has been leading this tremendous effort. Brandon Borarth, Illinois Farm Bureau trainee, and Patti McCrystal, retired teacher/principal, and our Women's Committee have provided assistance to this program.

Brandon Bozarth to assist MCFB

My name is Brandon Bozarth and I am pleased to announce that I will be shadowing McHenry County Farm Bureau Manager Dan Volkers for the next three weeks.

I am from Fairfield, IL in Wayne County and the oldest of four children of Mike and Barbara Bozarth. Although indirectly; I grew up very much involved in agriculture, with both sets of grandparents being farmers and living next door to my uncle, Fred Blessing. He used to raise beef cattle and now operates your typical grain farm. He also happens to be the Wayne County Farm Bureau president.

Discount Program Expanding

McHenry County Farm Bureau welcomes three more businesses to our local discount program. Woodstock Ornamental Werks is offering members a discount on custom fabrications including handrails, balconies, driveway gates and fencing. A Better Water Treatment Co. of McHenry is offering members a discount on water treatment equipment purchases. Monarch Renewable Energy of Elgin is offering members a $500 discount off wind turbines and the initial site survey is free. To learn more about these discounts and others click here.

MCFB helps those in need

McHenry County Farm Bureau has been a long time supporter of McHenry County Fair's 4-H and FFA livestock auction. This past year, we purchased a market steer from a young man involved in 4-H. Following the purchase, we sent the animal to market and received one thousand dollars.

Ag. Plate available

The specialty license plate that salutes agriculture is now available. It can be ordered through the Secretary of State's (SOS) office or at a local driver's license facility. The plate is available for cars, pick-up trucks, vans, and SUVs.

There's an additional fee associated with the purchase of a specialty plate, and for every ag specialty plate sold, $25 of the fee goes to the Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom program (IAITC).
